Thank you to everyone for your membership renewals for 2025! If you have not yet had chance to join, please become a member of the International Society for Diatom Research.
IDS 2025 South Africa
The International Diatom Symposium will take place in South Africa, Kruger National Park, from 3–8 August 2025. The website for registration is open International Diatom Symposium | natural-sciences.nwu.ac.za. The deadline for registration including reservation for accommodation is 15th April 2025, late registration 1st May 2025, and the deadline for abstract submission is 1st June 2025. Election of new Council members and Vice-President
Sarah Spaulding is stepping down as President, and Maria Kahlert, Martyn Kelly, and Andrea Burfeid (Young ISDR representative) are stepping down as Council members at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM) in South Africa. We would like to invite proposals for new candidates. Please contact potential candidates and ask them to send a brief statement explaining why they would like to be considered as Vice-President or Council member, and how they plan to support the activities of the Society. Nominations with supporting statements should be sent to the Secretary by 15th May 2025.
Donations to ISDR
Council proposes to gather additional funds from members to support the international diatom research community. We plan to fill lower cost options and advance to higher levels, such as supporting:
1) ISDR membership for researchers in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) and next
2) travel grants to visit research facilities and collections
3) small research grants for researchers in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) (not restricted to early career researchers)
4) online workshops / seminars.
