Marine Arctic Diatoms Workshop

by Sarah Spaulding |

The newly formed PAGES Working Group MARDI (Marine Arctic Diatoms), is announcing a workshop on Arctic marine diatom taxonomy. The workshop will be held in Helsinki, Finland, from 6-8 June 2023. The event will bring leading experts in Arctic marine diatom analysis and their use in paleoceanography. More details can be found on the workshop webpage.

Mark the dates in your calendar, and register here (deadline 31 March) if you are interested. Financial support for early-career researchers will be available.

The goal of the MARDI working group is to improve the precision and reliability of quantitative diatom-based palaeoceanographic reconstructions in the Arctic and subarctic. This will give diatom workers tools to create a wider spatial and temporal set of environmental reconstructions that can be used by paleoclimate modelers to calibrate models and improve data-model comparisons. You can find more information about the MARDI Working Group here: PAGES – MARDI.

We hope to welcome many of you in Finland in June!

Kind regards,
The MARDI Steering Group (Christof, Audrey, Beth, Kaarina, Mimmi, & Tiia)
