North American Diatom Symposium 2024

You are cordially invited to attend the 27th North American Diatom Symposium being held on 02-06 October 2024 at the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory in northwest Iowa.  The North American Diatom Symposium is held every two years at field stations throughout North America and is the premier venue for all aspects of diatom research. We welcome you to access the NADS website to find the latest meeting information and links to program details, registration information, and abstract submission as we open the links.
 
Venue/Travel
Lakeside Lab is located near the towns of Spirit Lake and Milford in northwest Iowa (Iowa Lakeside Laboratory, 1838 Highway 86, Milford, IA 51351-7267).
Air travelers to Lakeside should use the Sioux Falls, SD airport (100 miles), the Spencer, IA airport (20 miles), the Des Moines, IA airport (200 miles), or the Minneapolis, MN airport (200 miles) which are served by various carriers.
Lodging, dining, and the meeting venue will be at Iowa Lakeside Lab. Lakeside lodging will be first come, other lodging venues are available in the nearby towns of Spirit Lake, Milford, and Arnolds Park, IA. Camping on the Lakeside grounds is also available.
Program
Three days of meetings will be highlighted by morning and afternoon oral sessions (never concurrent), a dedicated poster session, plenary speakers, the scum run, and a special event to honor the 60th anniversary of the Ecology and Systematics of Diatoms class that has been a part of so much of our diatom training. Evening events will include mixers and the NADS auction.

About NADS
The North American Diatom Symposium (NADS) is a biennial meeting normally held at field stations throughout the United States and Canada.  This meeting was first held in 1970 at Cedar Creek (Minnesota) and has been hosted at field stations in Florida, Colorado, Manitoba, Kentucky, Alabama, Ohio, Georgia, Colorado, Indiana, Maine, Minnesota, Iowa, and Michigan. NADS usually attracts about 80-100 diatomists from North America and international diatomists as well who come for the student friendly atmosphere, diverse diatom topics, ample opportunities to network and socialize, the scum run, collecting opportunities, and an evening auction to support student travel. NADS is an informal society of diatomists, that is, we do not have an official organization structure.
