The seond day of the 26th International Diatom Symposium was filled with a Keynote presentation by Ken Sawada oral sessions on 4. Biomarkers & Proxies, 5.Biogeography, an Early Career Workshop (ECR) on Digital Diatomology by Michael Kloster and Andrea Burfeid-Castellanos, poster session, and an ECR networking session followed by dinner.

4. Biomarkers & Proxies
KEYNOTE
Ken Sawada. Development of biomarker application for reconstructing diatom paleoproduction and chemotaxonomy.

Kotaro Hoshi. Diatom-derived biomarker analysis in the northern North Pacific off the Gulf of Alaska.

Lihua Ran. Differential dissolution of biogenic silica in the South China Sea: Implications for use of sediment diatoms as paleoceanographic proxies.

Takuto Ando. Preservation bias of diatom-derived steroids in Nakaumi Lagoon and Lake Shinji.

5. Biogeography
Christopher Lobban. What if everything is not everywhere?

Marie Alibert. Diatom distributions as proxies for northern warming in subarctic regions of Nunavik, Quebec, Canada.
