The Second Annual Academic Conference (2025) of the Working Group on Micropaleontology and Paleoenvironment Research, Chinese Geographical Society

From November 7 to 9, 2025, the Second Annual Academic Conference (2025) of the Working Group on Micropaleontology and Paleoenvironment Research, Chinese Geographical Society, was successfully held in Xiamen. The theme of this conference was “Paleoenvironment Narratives Across Scales.” A total of 205 scholars and graduate students in the field of micropaleontology and paleoenvironment research from 64 institutions and universities participated in the conference. Attendees came from 29 cities across the country, and the top six cities
in terms of attendance were Shijiazhuang (43 participants), Beijing (31 participants), Lanzhou and Nanjing (16 participants each), as well as Guangzhou and Zhengzhou (10 participants each).

The presentation topics covered various micro-indicator studies, ranging from experimental methodologies to theoretical explorations, and from fundamental research to applied case studies. These included pollen, phytoliths, diatoms, starch grains, charcoal (for paleofire studies), NPPs (e.g., fungal spores), sedimentary ancient DNA, paleobotanical fossils, and other microfossils (such as ostracods). Dr. Xiaosheng Zhang from Shanxi University introduced recent progress in diatom research, and Dr. Muhammad Farqan from Lanzhou University introduced a diatom-based conductivity transfer function in lakes of Northern China.
